Using Waiting Time Efficiently

We all have encounter multiple instances per day when we are just waiting:  waiting for our coffee to brew in the morning, waiting in line, waiting on hold, etc.  I like to get things done in these "double-duty" moments.

Crossing items off your to-do list while you're waiting for something else  is one of my favorite time-hacks, because it feels a little bit like cheating.  Here are some ways that I like to use these periods of waiting:

While coffee brews, or something is heating in the microwave:

  • Empty/load the dishwasher
  • Brush your teeth
  • Chop veggies for tonight's dinner (and if you've meal-planned, you know what tonight's dinner will be!)
  • Make salad dressing for tonight's dinner

While waiting in line:

  • Make phone calls
  • Send email
  • take a few minutes to meditate

While waiting on hold:

  • Answer email
  • Tidy up your desk/office
  • File (electronic or paper)
